Monuments of Andhra Pradesh
Andhra Pradesh, a state in South India is famous for its golden beaches, famous temples, water falls, Borra and Belum caves and several other natural beauties. Apart from these attractions, this state is also blessed with lots of famous heritage monuments representing the magnificent architecture and intricate work. A sense of maneuver, mystery and romance is present behind the creation of the monuments of Andhra Pradesh. Few of its renowned monuments in the state are Charminar, Chandragiri Fort, Golconda Fort, Chowmahalla Palace, Falaknuma Palace etc.
The monuments of Andhra Pradesh depict the glorious saga of the ruling dynasties of the early periods. Among the above mentioned monuments, Chandragiri Fort located in Chandragiri was constructed in AD 1,000 by Immadi Narasimha Yadvaraya. This fort was constructed on a hill of 183 m high. The southern side of the fort is enclosed by a wall. The major portion of the building is famous as Raj Mahal or the Chandragiri Mahal. Its upper portion is brickwork while the lower end is constructed with stones. The present day Chandragiri city lies to the eastern side of the fort.
Another major monument of Andhra Pradesh is the Bhongir Fort located on a single hill at Bhongir at an altitude of 500 feet. This fort was constructed in the 12th century by the Chalukya ruler of that province over an area of 40 acres. The presence of trap doors, stables, underground chamber, a moat, and ponds surrounding to the fort make a mesmerizing look.
The Charminar monument in Hyderabad is another important monument of Andhra Pradesh.It is a wonderful creation of Islamic architecture during the Muslim rulers of Indian subcontinent. It is a magnificent edifice of granite, constructed on four arches on four sides. These arches support the gallery and the floor of the monument. There present 24 meter high minarets on each corner of this structure. Due to the presence of these minarets, the overall height of the monument becomes 54 meter. Each minaret or minar is created on a base of lotus leaf. It was named as Charminar due to the presence of its four minarets.
Golconda Fort of Andhra Pradesh Another famous monument of Andhra Pradesh is named as Golkunda fort. Located in Hyderabad, represents the greatest architecture of the ancient Kakatiyas dynasty of the Andhra Pradesh province. This dynasty constructed the fort which was rebuilt by Qutb Shahis in the 16th century. This monument is famous for its palaces, water supply system and Fateh Rahben Gun.
Apart from all these structures, Andhra Pradesh consists several other tombs, forts and mausoleums. These monuments are structured wonderfully and decorated in stuccowork.
