Tumkur district
Tumkur is one of the 27 administrative districts of Karnataka state, located North-west of Bangalore at a distance of about 70 kms. The district is bounded by Mandya District in the South; Chitradurga and Hassan districts in the West; Chikkamangalore in the Northeast and Ananthapura District of Andra Pradesh state in the Southeast direction.
Tumkur town is the administrative head quarter of the district and is a centre for commercial, business and educational activities. It is home to Tumkur University, four Engineering and a Medical college and other institutions of importance.The district consists chiefly of elevated land intersected by river valleys. The district is famous for its iron ores.

How to reach
Tumkur has good networks of rail and road. The city is situated on the National Highway No.4 and hence buses ply regularly from Tumkur to different parts of the state and neighboring states. The City is on the broad gauge train route from Bangalore to Shimoga and Hubli via Kadur. Tumkur town is 70 kms from Bangalore.
