Chitradurga district
Chitradurga district is surrounded with rocky hills, which houses many ancient temples some of which are Ekanathamma, Phalguneswara, Gopalakrishna, Anjaneya, Subbaraya and Siddeswara.
Chitradurga gets its name from Chitrakaldurga, an umbrella-shaped lofty hill found there. Chitradurga District finds its name in the great Hindu epics of Ramayana and Mahabharata. The whole district lies in the valley of the Vedavati River, with the Tungabhadra River flowing in the northwest. During the British times it was named Chitaldurg. It is popularly known as Chitradurg.

Chitradurga town falls on the National Highway No. 4 linking Bangalore with Hospet. The distance from Bangalore is 200 km by road and 240 km by train via Tumkur, Arsikere, Birur, Chikkajajur.
