Bangalore district

Bangalore district is located in the south of the Deccan Plateau. Some of the major attractions of the district are Chamrajsagar Reservoir, Magadi, Cubbon Park, Visvesvaraya Industrial and Technological Museum, Vasanthapura and Bannerghatta National Park.

Visvesvaraya Industrial and Technological Museum

As the name suggests, the Visvesvaraya Industrial and Technological Museum, at Bangalore in the state of Karnataka is an exquisite science museum exhibiting different elements related to science and technology. It was founded as part of the centenary celebrations of the engineer-statesman Sir M. Visvesvaraya.

Different floors of the museum exhibit different objects of science. As such, the `Engine Hall` is a storehouse of various automobiles, machines used in industry, a jet aircraft engine, and other mechanical devices. The other gallery named as the `Electro Technic Gallery` boasts interactive electrical exhibits that work on electricity, electronics and communication. There is also the `Fun Science Gallery` displaying the sciences of sound, optics, fluids and perception.

Other than these galleries, there is the most interesting `Space Gallery` that shows the history of space exploration and rocket science. The exhibits in the `Biotechnology Hall` are those of applications of Biotechnology. There are also other displays on Electronics housed in the `BEL Hall of Electronics`. 3D films along with a mini planetarium show called `Taramandal` are also showed at regular intervals.

Visvesvaraya Industrial and Technological Museum From 30th April 2007, a new gallery `Science for Children` has been opened for visitors to enjoy. This gallery includes a giant piano over which children can dance to play music, a virtual game area for playing music using virtual instruments, an attractive fresco made of colored beads welcome the visitors to enjoy at their full heart in this gallery.

The most interesting point to note is that this museum is the only museum in the world other than the Smithsonians Institution in US to boast a full-scale facsimile of the 1903 flyer of Wright Brothers.

The museum remains open from 10am to 6pm. Interested people can visit the museum during this time except Mondays, Dussera and Diwali.
