Mehrangarh Fort Museum (***)
This is an excellent museum with rare and interesting artefacts, textiles, painting transport items etc. laid out with utmost care and thought. The Palanquin Gallery and Howdah Gallery display a superb collection of old and costly specimens of great historical value.
The armoury section showing one of the finest collection of old weapons and arms is housed in Maan Vilas where as the paintings are displayed in the Umaid Vilas. Similarly the Umaid Bhawan Palace Museum. Jodhpur Takht Mahal, the Phool Mahal, Moti Mahal and Jhanki Mahal in the sprawling palace complex show numerous objects of great artistic and historic value.
Timings : 10 am-4.30 pm. Closed on Friday & gazetted holidays. Entry: Rs.10 for Indians, Rs.100 for foreigners.
Umaid Bhawan Palace Museum, Jodhpur
Recently the ruling family of Jodhpur has converted a part of the gigantic Umaid Bhawan Palace (Hotel) as a palace museum. The items on display include rare collection of clocks and watches, fine China, ornate mirrored furniture, glass and crystal ware, photographs etc.
The visitor gets access to the grounds and parts of the Umaid Bhawan, one of the largest private residences in the world.
Timings : 10 am-4.30 pm. Closed on Friday & gazetted holidays. Entry: Rs.10, Rs.100 for foreigners.
Government Museum, Jodhpur
Located in the Umaid gardens on High Court Road, it has a large and fairly interesting collection. There are many stuffed animals, including a number of desert birds in two glass cases, each with a thorn bush. The military section includes cumbersome wooden biplane models and an extraordinary brass battleship.
