Auli
Auli is a serene hill station and a ski resort in Chamoli district in the state of Uttarakhand, India. It offers good treks to nearby places and is a good ski resort from November - March depending on snowfall. The rope way from Joshimath to Auli is one of the longest in India covering a distance of 4.15 km.
Auli is acclaimed as one of Asia's finest ski resorts, and has been credited with some of the finest powder in the world. The 180 degree view from the top of Auli is mind boggling. Nanda Devi, Kamet, Mana etc are some of the highest peaks that one can see from Auli. The GMVN Guest house and Log huts are reasonably good, and the Tourism Dept. also offers courses in skiing. The people of Auli are nice and warm and are very helpful. From here one can also go to the Valley of Flowers (a UNESCO World Heritage Site) and to Hemkund sahib (Sikh Pilgrim Centre), the Sikh Gurudwara is located in Hemkund Sahib. Guru Gobind Singh in his previous birth performed prayers here for LORD and SHAKTI.
From Joshimath, near Auli, one can visit ancient BADRINATH temple made of AKHROT wood is devoted to Lord VISHNU the creator of this Universe. There are hot water sulphur springs in Badrinath.
Also on the banks of lake near Hemkunt is ancient temple belonging to LAKSHMAN brother of Lord Ram, it is perhaps only temple of Lakshman. Lakshman had to perform prayers to save himself from curse after some scuffle with RISHI DURVASA on the last day of LORD RAM on this earth.
